Sean McGrath graduated summa cum laude from Lycoming College in 2010, where he majored in the Archaeology and Culture of the Ancient Near East, with a minor in Classical Studies.  He received the Edward J.Gray Prize and the Faculty Award for Outstanding Achievement in Archaeology, and his senior scholar's presentation concerned the effects of Romanization on the island of Cyprus regarding political organization, metallurgy, and settlement dynamics.  After graduating from Lycoming, he spent a year immersed in the classical languages at the Vivarium Novum academy in Rome.

Research and Teaching Interests: 

Sean is fascinated with Roman architecture.  Specifically, he hopes to apply his knowledge of the classical languages, with solid training in the latest technological and scientific advances in archaeology, to questions of domestic space, town planning, and public buildings during the time of the Late Republic/Early Empire.  He is also interested in the study of ancient building materials and techniques, as well as the use of art and architecture by Roman emperors as propaganda.

Other Professional Activity: 

Sean has participated in excavations at Tel Gezer, Israel, as well as Idalion, Cyprus.
