The NYU Classics Department will be hosting this fall's Latinfest on Friday, November 21. Our text will be Claudian's De raptu Proserpinae, and Penn students will be responsible for running the discussion of the second half of book 2 (lines 151–372). We will use this session of the colloquium to organize our contribution to the event. There will be brief introductions to Claudian's life and times, his career, the place of De raptu in that career, and the textand structure of the poem, including a read-through in Latin of our portion of it.
