CRATES

Form: Krates.

A Greek comedian, who lived at Athens about 470 B.C. He was regarded as the founder of the Attic Comedy in the proper sense of the term, as his pieces were not, like those of his predecessors, mere lampoons on individuals, but presented subjects of a more general character. Only a few fragments of his plays have come down to us.
