ZEPHYRUS
The West Wind, son of Astraeus and Eos, the messenger of spring, and the lover of the flower-goddess Chloris, who bore to him Carpus, the god of fruit. Spurned by the beautiful Hycinthus (q.v.), he caused his death, by blowing the quoit of his rival Apollo against his head. The Romans identified him with Favonius, the breeze of springtide. In art he is represented as partly unclothed, and carrying flowers in the folds of his robe.
