Glenn Most's abstract
I have been working off and on for a while on some poems in the Appendix
Vergiliana (Culex, Ciris, Aetna) as reflections and interpretations
of Virgil. The appendix was much worked on until the very end of the 19th
century, when it seemed certain that the poems were not by Virgil. Then
there was a last attempt by F. Skutsch to prove their Virgilian paternity,
which failed; and thereafter they were quite ignored, except textually,
for the most part. but the developments in intertextuality and recpetion
criticism over the last decades would make them more interesting now than
they were a generation ago.
