First Fridays on Anti-Racism -- Nov. 6

Friday, November 6, 2020 - 2:00pm

Our next First Friday will meet on November 6th from 2-3:30 PM. Our First Fridays series this semester will consist of structured conversations centered on topics of race, racism, and anti-racism in Classical Studies, the university, and beyond. This series is hosted and organized by members of the Anti-Racism Working Group in Classical Studies.

Our November 6th First Friday workshop will be centered around building a working vocabulary to talk about racism and anti-racism in both our everyday lives and our academic lives. Our discussion will be prompted by the article “Decolonization is not a metaphor” (2012) by Eve Tuck and K. Wayne Yang which is available online and in Penn Box here:  "Decolonization is not a metaphor."  Penn credentials are required to access the reading material.

We’ve put together some brief discussion questions to guide your reading which can be found here: Google doc with discussion questions on Tuck and Yang.

We hope that you will join us!
