Sheila Murnaghan is President-Elect for the Society for Classical Studies (SCS) in 2019. Cynthia Damon is the newly elected Vice President of the Program. The SCS, founded as the American Philological Association in 1869 by "professors, friends, and patrons of linguistic science," is the principal learned society in North America for the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, and civilizations. Professor Murnaghan will succeed Penn Professor Joe Farrell, who is the current president of the SCS.
