COLLOQUIUM: Rodney Ast, Heidelberg, "Editions of Ancient Papyri Born Digital. Aspirations and Current Obstacles"

Thursday, September 24, 2015 - 4:30pm to 6:00pm

402 Cohen Hall

Early projects concerned with digitizing ancient papyri concentrated on making images and textual data of published papyri available online.  Recently, focus has shifted to developing an editorial platform that will allow papyrologists to emend and publish papyri online via a peer-reviewed process similar to that used for traditional print media.  The purpose of this talk is to address the advantages and challenges (techonological, financial, and especially social) presented by this new publication method.
