Discovering Language and Humanities Data

You are cordially invited to celebrate Penn’s 2019-2020 Academic Theme, the Year of Data, with an event co-sponsored by the Linguistic Data Consortium, the Price Lab for Digital Humanities and Van Pelt Library, “Discovering Language and Humanities Data” at the Price Lab, Room 619, Williams Hall on Friday, February 7 from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm.

The program is in two parts and all are welcome to attend as their schedule permits:

2:00 pm – app. 3:30 pm. Hands-on exercise with language and humanities data. An introduction to digital resources available at LDC, the Price Lab and Van Pelt.

3:30-5:00 pm.  Happy Hour with staff from LDC, the Price Lab and Van Pelt. A chance to chat informally about we do and how you can access our digital resources for your work. See demonstrations of language annotation portals from LDC. Food and refreshments will be provided.

About us:

LDC been a part of Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences for over 25 years. We support language-based research while also providing data, tools and standards to many research and technology development communities. To date LDC has distributed close to 200,000 copies of over 3,000 data sets to thousands of organizations around the world. 

The Price Lab for Digital Humanities supports innovative uses of technology in the study of history, art, and culture. We work in close partnership with the Penn Libraries and Penn Museum of Archeology and Anthropology to help train faculty and students in the latest digital tools and methods, encourage development of new computing-intensive humanities courses, and promote collaborative faculty-student experiments and research projects.

Van Pelt Library is Penn's main social sciences and humanities research library. Its facilities include the Lippincott Library @ Wharton, the Music Library and the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Book & Manuscripts and the Weigle Information Commons.
