First Friday Meeting -- First session on "The Black Aeneid"

Friday, September 10, 2021 - 1:45pm to 3:15pm

Our first First Friday of the semester will actually be on the second Friday of the month - Friday, September 10th from 1:45 - 3:15 PM in 337 Cohen Hall. The topic for this session will be "The Black Aeneid." Julia Wilker will chair the session, and the topic will be introduced by Emma Dyson, Joe Farrell, and Stephen Jagoe.

Here is a link to a Google Doc with an outline of the program. Anyone with the link can view the document, but can't comment or edit. Its purpose is to gather some information to help people prepare for discussion, if they wish; but the Aeneid is a pretty familiar poem, and everyone will find it easy to participate even if they do not have time to go through the document.

The session will consist of about 40 minutes of presentation followed by about 50 minutes of open discussion. Emma, Joe, and Stephen will not try to go through the entire Google Doc, but will pick up on a few of the most salient points and focus on those, as well as on a few questions and inferences about them. In the discussion, everyone will be encouraged to ask about anything on the outline that is or isn't covered in the presentation, or about anything else for that matter.

All are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!
