Our next First Friday workshop will meet this Friday, December 4th from 2-3:30 PM and will be facilitated by graduate students Adrienne Atkins and Theodora Naqvi. This month we will focus on Martin Bernal’s Black Athena – a book which, both in the ideas it put forth and in their reception, revealed many assumptions about race in the ancient world – in order to think about how concepts of race, blackness, and whiteness inflect our study of the ancient world. Our discussion will be prompted by the following readings:
