Speaker: Emily Wilson (University of Pennsylvania) Professor of Classical Studies

Title: "Iliad 24: A Reading from My Translation"

Abstract: I will read, from my currently in-progress translation of the Iliad into iambic pentameter, the whole of Iliad 24, featuring Priam’s visit to Achilles to retrieve the body of his son, Hector, and the women’s laments for the dead.  After the reading, I would love to have comments, questions and discussion from the audience both about this heartbreaking section of the poem, and about my approach to the translation.
