Marcie Persyn

Graduated 2014, summa cum laude, from Baylor University with a B.A. in Classics and a minor in Anthropology. Entered the PhD program at Penn in 2014.

Marcie’s research interests center on the interplay between Hellenistic and Augustan poetry, representations of women in Greco-Roman literature, and correspondences between literary and social dynamics within and around poetry. Combining these concerns, her undergraduate honors explored the characterization of women in Theocritus’ Idylls 2 and 15. She is also interested in narrative devices and thematic imagery in Greco-Roman art.
